Grab a bargain, make a donation or volunteer, while supporting people with disabilities.

As part of the ‘Choose Charity Shops 1st’ campaign which was launched this week by the Irish Charity Shops Association (ICSA), Irish Wheelchair Association (IWA) are appealing to the general public to support the Association’s 12 Charity Shops by donating unwanted goods, volunteering their time, or taking the opportunity to visit the shops to see what it has on offer.

The Association is currently requesting donations of used adults and children’s clothing, furniture, books and bric-a-brac. All funds raised in IWA’s Charity Shops are directly invested into the range of services the Association provides to local people with physical disabilities and other mobility impairments. IWA Charity Shops also provide an environmental function by recycling good quality clothing that is un-saleable while raising valuable revenue for the services the Association provides to people with disabilities in their own homes and communities.

IWA Charity Shops are run by a team of local volunteers who play a vital role in the success of the shops and the delivery of local services. Speaking about the ‘Choose Charity Shops 1st Campaign’ Tomas McCluskey, IWA Retail Development Co-ordinator explained:

Irish Wheelchair Association is a registered charity, which is committed to improving the lives of physical disabilities in Ireland. By supporting an ICSA member charity shop, you are supporting a legitimate charity that is delivering essential services and supports. IWA is one of Ireland’s leading social enterprises and representative organisations providing services and supports to over 20,000 people with disabilities nationwide.

He continued:

The Resource and Outreach Centres, supports people with disabilities in their day-to-day lives by offering locally-based recreational and educational programmes.
