President's Garden Party
This summer, the President of Ireland, Michael D Higgins, is hosting a number of garden parties in Aras an Uachtarain for various community groups from around the country. Last Friday, the 22nd June, two young IWA members, Micheál Hughes and Emily Lyons attended one of these parties in the Aras, to represent IWA. The weather on the day was beautiful and made for an amazing afternoon on one of the most famous front gardens in the country! Emily and Micheál arrived in the Phoenix Park a little after 4pm and were soon nibbling on some lovely food and listening to various pieces of live music-from youth orchestras to harpists. President Higgins gave a speech to the gathering celebrating the young people of Ireland, commending them on their part in creating a modern Ireland, a country which is now more tolerant and culturally diverse.
Emily and Micheál then got a chance to meet President Higgins and his wife Sabine and get some lovely pictures taken. From the IWA youth service perspective, we are delighted that Emily and Micheál were able to attend, as they really are great role models and ambassadors for what we represent. Chatting with the guys over the last few days, they thoroughly enjoyed the experience and loved the opportunity. Let’s hope this lovely weather continues for the rest of the summer and we can all have a few garden parties! As for rumours that Emily tried to outstay her welcome and had to be removed by security at a very late hour…these are not verified and will not be tolerated! Happy summer folks.
