Darkness into Light
On Saturday morning the 9th of May, Bray youth café members braved the cold and ridiculously early time (4.30am meet up!) to take part in the Pieta House ‘Darkness into Light’ walk. Over 2,000 people, of all ages and abilities, crammed onto the start point on Bray promenade, with everybody decked out in the yellow event t-shirts and holding candles (to signify hope-and to also help light the way ahead!). The 5k walk brought the participants on a loop of Bray, finishing back on the promenade at roughly 6am. The walk itself was a lovely experience, with a genuinely friendly and welcoming atmosphere. On approaching the finishing line there was a lovely surprise in the form of the magical sound of a choir singing some magical tunes. As you can see from the attached picture, we all indulged in nice breakfast on finishing, with hot drinks, bagels and breakfast bars to beat the band!
The Bray youth café members decided to take part in Darkness into Light as part of our ‘Positive Mental Health Awareness’ month (May 2015). Pieta House provides support to people who are going through a difficult time in their lives. You can find out more about what services Pieta House provide at http://www.pieta.ie/index.php/about
