Work Placement Opportunities

Work Placement Opportunities

AHEAD is offering 10 work placement opportunities for graduates with disabilities through its WAM Programme. These placements will be based in ESB in Dublin and Abbott Ireland in Clonmel, Co.Tipperary.

AHEAD is the Association for Higher Education Access and Disability - an independent non-profit organisation working to promote full access to, and participation in, further and higher education for students with disabilities and to enhance their employment prospects on graduation.

The WAM Programme offers work placements involving a full time working week, with pay, for a period of 6 months. During the placement each person will receive mentoring and support from a mentor within the organisation, who is not the person's line manager.

Laura Leeson, a long-time member of IWA Youth Service, took part in the WAM programme a few years ago and her experience was very positive. "It was my first experience of being in full-time employment - before that being in work was just an idea in my head. I was placed with FAS in Dublin and everybody there was really great to me. They made sure everything was as accessible as it could be - from my workspace to going out with co-workers after work. It definitely helped me to see that I could get out there and be part of the workforce".

The new placements are available across a variety of disciplines, so there could be placement to suit you and your skills. All you need to do is fill in the WAM application form and send it off to AHEAD along with a recent CV.

Employers will then select candidates for interview. There is also a needs assessment process after recruitment to help identify what supports candidates may need when taking up their placement.

Please note:

  • The closing date for applications for ESB is 5pm, Tuesday 1st May 2012.
  • The closing date for applications for Abbott Ireland is 5pm, Friday 4th May 2012.
