Irish Wheelchair Association has a long history of running quality holiday services for people with disabilities to have a break away from home.

We started providing these services as people with physical disabilities simply could not take a holiday due to inaccessible environments, accommodation and transport and did not have access to personal assistants for daily living while on holiday.

During the holidays our skilled staff are available around the clock in the hotel to support your daily living needs.

We offer supported holidays or short breaks in selected, fully-accessible hotel destinations across Ireland.

Our partner hotels are located in Galway, Offaly and Kilkenny and bedrooms are furnished with high low beds, shower chairs, armchairs, hoists, as and when required, and tailored to individual mobility requirements to ensure you can enjoy your holiday.

You’ll have use of all the hotel facilities available to you – relax with a coffee, dine in the restaurant with fellow guests and socialise in the bar at night. What’s more, family and friends can to book into the hotel directly, so you can holiday together.

As part of your break, you can take part in a holiday itinerary arranged by Irish Wheelchair Association or organise your own days out to local attractions.

We currently partner with the following hotels:

Carmel Fallon Centre
Clontarf, Dublin

Hoben Hotel
Kilkenny

Shearwater Hotel & Spa
Ballinasloe, Co Galway

Over the years our service has grown in popularity and we are delighted to welcome guests back time and time again. In our annual customer satisfaction survey, 95% of our guests said ‘yes’ they would visit us again.

Here’s what people have said:

“You gave us a great holiday not just respite.”

“I feel equal going on holidays with everyone else.”

“When I went to respite before it was like the hospital. I love having day trips and the freedom to do my own thing.”
